My Ol' Pal Rudy

by Chalrei
(Pleas. Prairie, WI)

Something happened that day,
I still cannot explain.
But I know God stepped in for me
to lessen, to ease the pain.
It would be how I accepted
what I knew I had to do:
to ease all the suffering
in the name of love for you.
How we carried you so gently
it would be your final ride.
I sat so close and held you
I never left your side.
We took you to your place of rest
we buried you so near,
and with you my heart I sent,
for I cannot find it here.
May the God who lives above us
grant my plea to cease
for when he stepped in that day
he must now give release
so I may go on in life
and find a lasting peace.
