The Day the Trails Went Dark

by Alison

One summer day I returned home to find a rescue dog took residence in my home. I was not sure it was something that I was ready to take on. Especially since we had just lost our pet and it was the first time I didn't have the responsibility of owning a dog.

However, I walked into my home and my eyes met Dexter's eyes and something magical happened. I can't even understand what happened except that there was a mutual love that occurred. From that moment on he was by my side and no one has ever loved me like this dog loved me in my life! He was the most loyal dog in the world. We would take to the trails daily.

He has been my buddy. I am lost without him. Through the years I went through a horrible divorce, moved 2 times, lost our other dog, Diddy, and all I had at times was the love and comfort of Dexter. Through all my tears and grief he stood by me.

I can't even imagine what my life will be like without him. I know that when I die I will be with my Dex again.
