Jack was the family dog, but my special boy. He made us laugh and made us mad but he always knew he was top dog.
Everything revolved around keeping Jack as happy as we could, especially in the last 18 months when he had so many hurdles to overcome -- blindness, deafness, failing back legs and the kidney failure that led to his death. That makes him sound a trial, but he wasn't. He was full of fun and love and mischief and has left us with some of the best memories of our lives.
I don't know how long it will take for us to feel that life can be normal without him, but we just have to take one day at a time and try to console ourselves with the fact that for most of his life he was happy and for all of his life he knew we all loved him.
