My Best Friend

by Judy

For twelve years he was my constant companion. He slept on the foot of my bed every night. He guarded the yard against rabbits and squirrels - but if he had caught one, he would never have hurt it.

He was well liked by the FedEx and UPS delivery folks as well and they often left him a biscuit on top of the package.

He leaves a hole in my heart. I am grateful that I too am getting old and will see him again one of these days - because if there is a heaven without our furry friends, I don't want to go there.
