Kiki, My Baby Girl

by Katy Hickman
(Los Lunas, NM, USA)

I will never forget your loyalty and devotion. You were the best companion a girl could have. Whoever said "Dog is man's best friend" must not have realised that you are woman's as well.

For who but you, my baby girl, would stay by me when I was sick, or lick the tears off my face when I was sad? Or who would mimic my morning grumpiness? Who but you, my princess, would wait patiently for me to come home from work, ever ready with your favorite ball? Who but you would guard me at night and protect me on walks? And who but you could fill my heart with such joyous memories?

I wasn't able to have children, but I didn't need them because I had you. I will miss you so very much, my Kiki, and I know you'll be waiting for me in heaven. I love you and always will.
