Jake, My Beautiful Springer Spaniel

by Pam Manson (Harris)
(Vancouver Island, BC Canada)

Jake, my friend, you just died in my arms today after nine wonderful years of being my pal and best friend. I never really understood the viciousness of cancer until it began to grow on your side.

My wonderful springy Springer fought it as long as he could, but no longer could he chase shadows and protect me from unseen dangers.

I don't believe that you were my pet, Jake, I believe that I was your chosen pet. So, thank you for being my true friend for so many years.

May you not rest in peace, but play free and jump high once again. You are free from that odious cancer that claimed your life. Swim, race, bark with joy once more.
