It Was an Honor To Have You as a Companion

by Carmen Zavaleta

Dear Nala,

I thank you for all the time you spent with me. I had you as a baby and I saw you grow bigger and strong. You were a doberman but always as sweet as a puppy. I think you left too soon.

You are in my heart, precious. I hope you are happy where you are. I will still miss your barking, your asking me to take you out, your asking all of us to pat you. I will miss those beautiful sweet brown eyes, my noble friend.

I am sorry if sometimes I did not take care of you as you deserved. I know you loved me and that I was your family, your mom, your companion and your friend and we stayed together till the end, my beautiful one.

I have your picture. I will always remember what you taught me with your life and with your departure.

So long, Nena.
