In Loving Memory of My Faithful Friend Sammy

This is the note I left with my vet when I picked up my Sammy's ashes on a beautiful July afternoon:

Thank you for the way you cared for my beautiful boy
and not treating him like an old discarded toy.

I did what I had to do to set him free
no matter that it was so hard for me.

But you were there with your caring ways
and that will help me in the coming days.

I'll be grateful forever because you're the best
and that helps me to believe that Sammy is at rest.

He was the love of my life for so many years
and you never laughed at all of my tears.

So thank you again for being so nice to Sammy and me
and for preparing me to see when it was time to set him free.
