A Beautiful Life

by Sue
(Massachusetts)

Your head on my lap
My hand caressing you
As I watch your slow breath
I see
You swimming in total joy
You running through fields of snow
You exulting in falling leaves
You greeting the falling rain
You nudging me awake in the morning
You relishing an evening walk
You springing through tall grass
You dribbling a soccer ball
Trustingly, you let the needle pierce your skin
The blue liquid enters your vein
Your breath continues, slows, stops
My tears fall on your face
You no longer feel my hand caressing you
It does not know how to stop.
