Whatever is, is good.

I'm not sure where this quote came from; I think it was in a little book of dog poetry that someone gave me years ago.

I had it carved on a piece of granite to mark the grave of my joyful Labrador Retriever, Mickey.

"Whatever is, is good.
She wears her joy of living like a crown."

It summed her up perfectly.

Mickey lived 16 happy years. One afternoon she started to struggle for breath. We rushed her to the vet and found that she had a deer bone wedged in her throat. We couldn't save her but I take consolation in knowing that she died doing what she loved best: eating something stinky.

Oh how true!

Your post brought a tear to my eye. I lost my Mango, a 10 year old lab cross, along with his 4 year old kelpie friend, a couple of months ago. They were my best friends and the best friends my children could ever ask for. They never bullied or teased, were always happy to see us, and had a zest for life that made me smile daily.

We all miss them everyday.

They say that dogs love nothing more than their owners but I swear Mango loved food more than anything else. They both died from eating something. By the time we realised something was wrong it was too late to help them. My last memory of Mango was before they had been poisoned, I leant across my husband, holding Mango's head in my hands and looking into his beautiful brown eyes, I said "I love you so much boy" and kissed his nose.

They lived together and died together. They were cremated together and their ashes were scattered together at the dog beach.

RIP my beautiful angels xxx
