An old-timer told me the reason he takes his dog on the boat instead of bringing his wife along:

"...wags more, barks less."

{Editor's note: That might explain why Franklin D. Roosevelt sent a Navy destroyer out to collect his Scottie when it was left behind on an Alaskan island during a tour.]
