A Walk in the Woods

Some of the sweetest moments of the day come as I follow that fluffy little puppy running free down the trail with such joy and exuberance for life. She runs full out, then stops and turns back to be sure I am following her.

What an absolute blessing and miracle it is that I have become her "person" -- that she cares that I am near her. Her little nose catches the air and she pauses to take in the wonderful woodsy fragrances, then off she races to discover what is around the turn, over the hill, in the weeds -- always keeping me within her sight and listening for me to call her name. Back and forth she runs, between me and the adventures she discovers on our walks together.

She is happiness and sunshine -- a gift, this little dog!
